The Book Builder's Blog

On The Book Builder’s Blog, C. D. Tavenor discusses the art of crafting novels, from the very beginning concepts that form stories to the editorial processes involved prior to publishing. The blog goes beyond just storysmithing; it considers all the pieces necessary to construct a complete book!

Secrets of Endari #8: What are Deathbringers?

They're the boogeyman in the night. Shendari parents tell their children to close their windows to protect against the Deathbringers lurking on rooftops. Shendari Watchers stand guard, always vigilant against users of Death.

But who are they really?

The Shendari government officially states that the Deathbringers are the most evil of people, corrupted and controlled by the Shing'rin'ta, that distant enemy and perpetual practitioners of Death.

Deathbringers wear dark cloaks, have a powerful command of all soulic forms, and will suck the life straight out of their victims. Some people aren't even sure they're fully human, potentially warped by Shing'rin'ta sciences.

Very few people, however, have ever seen a Deathbringer... or lived to tell the tale.

Yet, Deathbringers have supposedly found their way to the distant province of the Western Reach.

As revolution brews amongst the people of Fendari, there are shadows walking amongst them.

Maybe.

If they exist at all.

Can the people of Fendari really trust what the Shendari say about Deathbringers?

Maybe it's just an urban legend to pacify the population.

Maybe they're actors running around, trying to spook people.

Maybe they are truly part of the Shing'rin'ta, secret agents spread across the world to sow discord.

Or maybe they're something else entirely.
